Helm CONNECT Maintenance and Compliance
We made the following changes to Helm CONNECT Maintenance and Compliance in this release.
Improvements to the My Work Tab
We launched the My Work tab under My Helm > To Do in Version 1.33, giving you one place to see all your assigned work. Based directly on customer feedback, we’ve made the following improvements in this release:
- See all available work, not just your own: A new Assigned to Me filter is on by default to show only your assigned work. Turn it off to quickly see everything that needs to be done.
- Start new work directly: You can now launch unstarted checklists and forms straight from the My Work tab instead of navigating to another tab.
- Focus on open work: Completed items now disappear from the list immediately, so you’re only looking at what’s still active.
- Find make and model names faster: The Make and Model filters now display names alphabetically, making it easier to find what you need.
Helm CONNECT Personnel
We made the following changes to Helm CONNECT Personnel in this release.
A New Way to Track Your Crew Certifications
Tracking certifications for your crew is essential for compliance and safe operations. Our original Crew Certifications module has helped operators manage crew compliance for years, but we knew our customers needed even more flexibility, clearer requirements, and stronger integration with scheduling.
We’re proud to introduce our new Crew Certifications module, which makes it easier to stay ahead of expiring or missing certifications, set up requirements that match the way you operate, and ensure your crew always has the right qualifications in place. Whether you’re running a single vessel or a complex fleet, the new module gives you clearer oversight and greater confidence in your crew’s certifications — and, for the first time, it integrates directly with the Crew Scheduling module.
The new Crew Certifications module is now available in early access, which means you can start using it today while we continue refining it, and share feedback to help shape the final release. Learn more in this blog post.
Manage Payroll Class Assignments with Payroll Class Mappings
On the new Setup > Payroll > Payroll Class Mappings tab, you can create payroll class assignments by asset and position to simplify management of complex payroll schemes. For example, if the asset is “Helm Aircraft” and the position is “Engineer,” you can assign the payroll class “Engineer Pay 2” instead of the crew member’s default class, which might be “Engineer Pay 1.”
To support this feature, the Payroll Class Source field in both the Timesheets and Crew Changes targets on the Setup > Payroll > Payroll Schemes tab includes a new From Mapping option. When selected, payroll is calculated using the assignments you set up, rather than relying on the default payroll class from a crew member’s profile or crew change entry.
Trigger Accruals Automatically in Minimum Payment Amount Rules (Auto Top-Up)
We’ve expanded minimum payment amount rules (auto top-up) so they now trigger automatic accruals as well as handle automatic withdrawals. This reduces manual work and makes payroll more efficient.
On the Setup > Payroll > Payroll Schemes tab, the Transaction Line target has a new condition called Withdrawal Rule: Number. When you specify a withdrawal rule number, any withdrawal under that rule automatically triggers the system to calculate and apply the matching accrual.
Calculate Payroll from Trip Counts in Timesheets
You can now base payroll calculations on the number of trips recorded in timesheet entries. This gives you more flexibility when compensating crew for trip-based work.
On the Setup > Payroll > Payroll Schemes tab, the Timesheets payroll target includes a new Trip Count condition. It accepts numerical values and can be configured in the Rates, Extra Pay, Bank Accruals, and Bank Withdrawals sections. When you use this condition, the system calculates payroll based on the number of trips in a crew member’s timesheet.
Reports
We made the following changes to our reports in this release. These changes may also affect report data linked to systems outside Helm CONNECT, such as Power BI. Please contact your account manager if you have any questions.
Attached Checklists
The Attached Checklists data source now allows you to include unstarted checklists in your reports.
Helm CONNECT Permissions
In this release, we made the following changes to the permissions on the Setup > Users > Roles tab.
New Permissions for Logbook Entries
We updated the Onboard > Logbook permissions in this release. The previous Edit Log Entries permission was renamed to Log Entries and split into three new permissions:
- Log Entries > Create Log Entries: Controls access to the "Log a New Entry" button.
- Log Entries > Edit Log Entries: Allows editing of uncompleted logbook entries.
- Log Entries > Delete Log Entries: Allows deleting logbook entries.
All users who previously had the Edit Log Entries permission now have all three new permissions automatically.
Notes
- The new Log Entries > Delete Log Entries permission, as well as the existing Setup > Extras > Edit Completed Log Entries permission, both require users to also have the new Log Entries > Edit Log Entries permission. Without the Edit Log Entries permission, users can’t delete entries or edit completed entries.
- If a user doesn’t have any of the new Log Entries permissions, the Logbook Entry window will still open in read-only mode. They’ll be able to view log entries but won’t be able to create, edit, or delete them.
