Logbook: Log Fluid Reading Events and Activities
You can log fluid readings to record tank measurements. These entries update recorded inventory and can affect future transactions.
The type you select determines the rules for values:
- Add Fluid accepts only positive values.
- Adjust Fluid accepts positive or negative values.
- Transfer Fluid moves fluid between tanks or assets. (Not available for attached assets).
- Fluid Reading requires Sounding and Trim values, even if a sounding table isn’t uploaded.
NoteFluid readings are different from cargo events because fluids are physically measured. For example, you might dip a tank to see how much diesel is left and record that as a fluid reading. Cargo, on the other hand, is tracked through operations like loading, discharging, or transferring.
Log a Fluid Reading for a Single Tank
You can log fluid readings for a single tank. The system remembers the previous sounding values and fills them in automatically, so you only need to update the tank if something has changed.
NoteSounding and Trim values are required for fluid readings, even if a sounding table isn’t uploaded.
To log a fluid reading for a single tank
- Go to the Onboard > Logs > Logbook tab.
- Click Log a new entry.
- From the Entry Type list, select the fluid reading event or activity you created in Setup.
- Select the commodity. The associated tank and units are displayed automatically.
- Enter the tank values:
- Sounding
- Sounding Inch (only available if the tank’s sounding table uses Feet & Inches)
- Trim
- Change or Total (positive or negative values as required)
- Total Calculated Volume (calculated automatically if a sounding table is uploaded)
- If you enter Sounding or Trim values outside the range of the uploaded table, the system displays a warning.
- When you’re finished, click Log Event or Log Activity.
Log Fluid Readings for Multiple Tanks
You can log fluid readings for commodities that are linked to more than one tank. By default, the system divides totals equally across all tanks, but you can adjust values for individual tanks or calculate volumes automatically.
NoteFor accurate calculations, you must enter Sounding, Sounding Inch, and Trim values for all tanks, even if some tanks are empty.
To log fluid readings for multiple tanks
- Go to the Onboard > Logs > Logbook tab.
- Click Log a new entry.
- From the Entry Type list, select the fluid reading event or activity you created in Setup.
- Select the commodity. The associated tanks and units are displayed automatically.
- Enter the overall Change or Total for the commodity. The system distributes the values equally across the associated tanks.
- To adjust values for individual tanks, enter the Total Calculated Volume for each tank. The system recalculates the corresponding Change and Total.
- To calculate volumes automatically, enter Sounding, Sounding Inch, and Trim for each tank, then click Calculate.
- If you enter Sounding or Trim values outside the range of the uploaded table, the system displays a warning.
- When you’re finished, click Log Event or Log Activity.
Log Fluid Readings for Attached Assets
You can log fluid readings for attached assets in the same way as for primary assets.
NoteOnly Add, Adjust, and Fluid Reading are supported for attached assets. Transfer Fluid is not yet available.
To log a fluid reading for an attached asset
- Go to the Onboard > Logs > Logbook tab.
- Click Log a new entry.
- From the Entry Type list, select the attached asset fluid reading event or activity you created in Setup.
- Select the attached asset and commodity. The associated tanks and units are displayed automatically.
- Enter the required tank values as you would for a primary asset.
- When you’re finished, click Log Event or Log Activity.
