Propagate readings from a component to its sub components
To simplify your checklists and reduce the number of readings your crew have to enter, you can configure your maintenance templates so that when someone completes a checklist, the cumulative readings entered for one component are propagated (or copied) down to its sub components.
To propagate readings, you must do two things:
- Configure components to receive propagated readings: In your asset component trees, you must specify which components can receive propagated readings from components above them in the tree.
- Configure cumulative readings items to propagate readings: In your maintenance templates, you must specify which cumulative readings items will propagate readings from the component down to its sub components.
This article will walk you through how to configure your components to receive propagated readings as well as how to configure the cumulative readings items on your maintenance templates to propagate readings.
Configure components to receive propagated readings
In your asset component trees, you must specify which components can receive propagated readings from components above them in the tree.
Note By default, components cannot receive propagated readings unless you configure them to do so.
To configure components to receive propagated readings
- On the Management > Assets > Assets tab, select the asset whose component tree you want to modify.
- Click the Components sub tab.
- For each component that should receive propagated readings, toggle the Doesn't Receive Propagated Readings icon to Receives Propagated Readings.
- When you finish configuring the components in the tree, click Save Components.
Configure cumulative readings items to propagate readings
On your maintenance templates, you must specify which cumulative readings items will propagate readings from the component down to its child components when someone completes the checklist.
Note Components can only propagate their readings to components that have been configured to receive propagated readings. See "Configure components to receive propagated readings" above.
To configure cumulative readings items to propagate readings
- On the Settings > Templates > Maintenance tab, select the template you want to modify then click Edit.
- For each cumulative readings item that should propagate readings from the component down to its child components, toggle the Don't Propagate Reading icon to Propagate Reading.
- When you finish modifying the template, click Publish Draft.
Limit to the number of components that can receive propagated readings
In your asset component trees, each component can have up to 150 sub components set to receive propagate readings. However, you must keep the following things in mind:
- Components at the top level in your component tree can propagate readings but they can't receive propagated readings.
- If a component already has 150 sub components that receive propagated readings, then the component itself can't receive propagated readings. If you need that component to receive propagated readings, you'll need to modify one of its sub components so that it no longer receives propagated readings.
- If you create a maintenance template where a component propagates its readings, the total number of components and sub components that can receive propagated readings from that component must not exceed 150. The system will warn you if you reach this limit and you'll either have to modify the template or the component tree.
Reports
The following data sources allow you to report on this feature:
- Maintenance Templates data source: The Propagate Readings field tracks which cumulative readings items on your maintenance templates have been configured to propagate readings.
- Components data source: The Receives Propagated Readings field tracks which components have been configured to receive propagated readings.
