Set Up Ship Types and Cargo Types
We recommend that you add your ship types and cargo types to Helm CONNECT before you add any ships.
Manage Ship Types
Ship types are a useful way to organize ships into groups and subgroups. When you set up your billing, you can create different rates for different ship types. You can also use ship types to report on the types of ships you have performed work for.
Use the Setup > Ships > Ship Types tab to build and manage your list of ship types. From this tab, you can:
- Arrange your ship types into a hierarchy
- Add accounting codes
- Add default cargo types
ExampleYou could create three ship types called Tanker, Oil Tanker, and Chemical Tanker. You could arrange your ship types so that oil tankers and chemical tankers were listed as types of tankers. You could also add optional accounting codes and default cargo types.
To manage your ship types
- On the Setup > Ships > Ship Types tab, click Edit.
- To add a new ship type, click the icon (you might not see it unless you hover to the right of an existing ship type). Enter a name for the new ship type, as well as an accounting code and cargo type, if necessary.
NoteManage your list of cargo types on the Setup > Ships > Cargo Types tab.
- To move a ship type to a different position in the list, click and hold the icon and drag the ship type to its new position.
- To group a ship type under the one above it, click the icon.
- To remove a ship type from a group, click the icon.
- To delete a ship type, click the icon to the right of the ship type you want to delete.
- To save your changes, click Save Changes.
Manage Cargo Types
Cargo types help you organize your ships by the cargo they carry. In order to track cargo types on your orders, you should do the following:
- Use the Setup > Ships > Cargo Types tab to build and manage your list of cargo types.
- Use the Setup > Ships > Ship Types tab to configure a default cargo type for each of your ship types.
