Analytics: How to Use the Maintenance Pro Audits Dashboard
The Audits Pro Dashboard gives safety managers, fleet superintendents, and compliance teams a consolidated view of audit activity across the fleet. It covers the full audit lifecycle — from findings raised during inspections, to open audits awaiting completion, through to corrective actions created to resolve non-conforming observations.
The dashboard is organised into three tabs: Audit Findings, Open Audits, and Corrective Actions. Use them together to understand where issues are being raised, which audits still need to be closed out, and whether corrective actions are being addressed on time.
NoteThe default date range covers This & Last Year. You can adjust the date range using the calendar control at the top right of the dashboard. All three tabs share the same global filters.

Audit Findings Tab
Provides a fleet-wide summary of all findings recorded against audits — covering both observations and non-conforming items across internal and external audits.
Summary KPI Panel
The top section contains a set of interactive KPI tiles. All five tiles are clickable and act as filters — selecting one restricts all visuals on the tab to that subset. Use Clear Selection to reset.
Total Findings: The overall count of all findings recorded in the selected date range.
Internal: Count of findings from internal audits. Clicking filters the tab to internal audits only.
External: Count of findings from external audits. Clicking filters the tab to external audits only.
Non-Conforming: Count of findings classified as non-conforming — findings that indicate a failure to meet a required standard and typically require a corrective action. Clicking filters the tab to non-conforming findings only.
Observations: Count of findings classified as observations — noted items that do not necessarily require corrective action. Clicking filters the tab to observations only.
Secondary KPI Cards
Avg Findings per Vessel: The average number of findings recorded per asset. A secondary figure excludes assets with zero findings to give a more meaningful average for active vessels.
Non-Conforming Findings %: The percentage of all findings that are classified as non-conforming. A high percentage indicates that most issues raised during audits are serious enough to require corrective action.
Audits with NC Findings %: The percentage of all audits that contain at least one non-conforming finding. Useful for understanding how widespread non-conformance is across the audit programme, rather than just the raw count of findings.
Example: If audit category XYZ shows a significantly higher non-conforming percentage than others, it may indicate a systemic compliance gap in that area worth investigating.
Audit Findings by Category (Treemap)
A treemap breaking down all findings by audit category (e.g., Internal Vessel Audit, Internal Survey, SIRE). The size of each block represents the relative volume of findings in that category. Clicking a block filters the dashboard to that category.
Top 10 Findings — Last 12 Months (Bar Chart)
A bar chart showing the ten most frequently raised audit codes or items over the trailing 12 months. Bars are colour-coded by finding type: red for Non-Conforming, blue for Observation. This visual helps identify recurring issues across the fleet.
Example: If a particular regulatory code appears repeatedly as non-conforming, it may point to a training gap or procedural weakness that warrants a fleet-wide review.
Findings by Year (Line Chart)
A line chart comparing the volume of findings year over year, broken down by finding type (Non-Conforming, Observation, and N/A). Use this to spot trends — whether findings are increasing, decreasing, or shifting in composition between observation and non-conforming categories.
Findings by Asset (Bar Chart)
A horizontal bar chart ranking assets by total number of findings, colour-coded by Non-Conforming (red) and Observation (blue). Use this to identify which assets generate the most audit findings and in what proportion.
Audit Volumes by Division (Bar Chart)
A horizontal bar chart showing audit activity by division, with a toggle to switch between # Findings and # Audits. Bars are split by External (orange) and Internal (green). Use this to compare audit intensity across divisions and understand whether certain divisions are conducting more or fewer audits relative to others.
How the Audit Code is Identified
An explanatory section below the charts describes the system logic used to extract an audit code from the item description. The rules applied in order are:
CFR references: If the description contains a CFR reference, the CFR number is used as the audit code.
Question codes starting with Q: If the description starts with a question label (e.g., Q 3.1), that question number is used.
Text before "Q:": If the description includes text before a Q: marker, everything before it is treated as the audit code.
OCIMF or ABS references: If a named OCIMF or ABS reference is present, it is used as the audit code.
Numbered section codes: If none of the above apply, the first numbered section found is used.
No match found: If no recognisable code is found, the item description itself is shown as the audit code.
Grouped Regulatory Citation Table
A table grouping findings by their extracted audit code alongside the full item description and the count of non-conforming instances. Use this to identify which regulatory citations are most frequently raised as non-conforming across the fleet.
Findings Detail Table
A full record-level list of all findings in the selected scope, showing:
Audit Name
Recorded Date
Item — the finding description
A View button linking directly to the finding record in Helm CONNECT
Open Audits Tab
Shows all audits that are currently in progress — that is, audits with a status of Scheduled (created but not yet started) or Recorded (in progress but not yet closed). Use this tab to track outstanding audit obligations and prioritise by urgency.
Summary KPI Panel
All KPI tiles on this tab are clickable and act as filters, restricting the visuals below to that subset. Use Clear Selection to reset.
Total Open Audits: The number of audits currently in a scheduled or recorded state.
Internal Audits: Count of open internal audits. Clicking filters the tab to internal only.
External Audits: Count of open external audits. Clicking filters the tab to external only.
OverDue: Open audits whose due date has already passed.
Due in 30 Days: Open audits due within the next 30 days.
Due in 30–60 Days: Open audits due within the 30–60 day window.
Example: If a vessel shows multiple overdue external audits, this may require immediate follow-up to avoid regulatory exposure.
Open Audits by Category (Treemap)
A treemap breaking down open audits by audit category (e.g., Internal Office Audit, Internal Vessel Audit). Clicking a segment filters the rest of the tab to that category.
Open Audits by Asset (Table)
A list of all open audits grouped by asset, showing the audit name, due date, and the number of days remaining (positive = days left, negative = days overdue). A View button links directly to the audit record in Helm CONNECT.
Open Audits — Due Date Breakdown (Bar Chart)
A horizontal bar chart categorising open audits across seven urgency bands:
Band | Description |
|---|---|
Completed | Audits that have been finished within the selected scope. |
Due in <30 days | Audits due within the next 30 days. |
Due in 30–60 days | Audits due between 30 and 60 days from now. |
Due in 60–90 days | Audits due between 60 and 90 days from now. |
Due in 90 or more days | Audits with due dates beyond 90 days. |
No due date | Audits that have not been assigned a due date. |
Overdue | Audits whose due date has passed and are still open. |
Open Audits — 6 Months Calendar
A six-month calendar view showing the distribution of open audit due dates across upcoming weeks. Days with scheduled audits are highlighted, making it easy to spot busy periods or clusters of upcoming deadlines.
Open Audits Detail Table
A full list of open audits showing:

Due Date Category — the urgency band the audit falls into (e.g., Overdue, Due in <30 days)
A View button linking to the audit record in Helm CONNECT
Corrective Actions Tab
Tracks all corrective actions raised against non-conforming audit findings — showing whether they are open or closed, how severe they are, and whether they are being resolved within their due dates.
Summary KPI Panel
The Total, Open, and Closed tiles are all clickable and act as filters. Selecting one restricts the visuals below to that subset. Use Clear Selection to reset.
Total Corrective Actions: The overall count of corrective actions in the selected scope.
Open: Corrective actions not yet closed. Clicking filters to open items only.
Closed: Corrective actions that have been resolved and closed. Clicking filters to closed items only.
Corrective Actions by Severity
Each severity tile is clickable and acts as a filter. Use these to triage work by priority — selecting High will restrict all visuals below to high severity actions only.
High (red): Corrective actions classified as high severity — requiring urgent attention.
Medium (amber): Moderate severity items.
Low (green): Lower priority corrective actions.
Status Summary Table
A table showing a count of corrective actions by due-date status. Each row is clickable and acts as a filter — selecting a row restricts all visuals below to that due-date category.
Status | Description |
|---|---|
Without Due-Date | Corrective actions that have not been assigned a due date. |
With Due-Date | Corrective actions that have a due date set. |
Overdue | Corrective actions past their due date and still open. |
Due in Next 7 Days | Actions due within the next week. |
Due in Next 30 Days | Actions due within the next month. |
Corrective Actions by Components, Asset (Bar Chart)
A stacked horizontal bar chart showing corrective actions broken down by vessel component (e.g., Lighting, Propulsion, Alarms, Steering). Toggle between Component view and Asset Name view using the buttons above the chart. Bars are colour-coded by severity (green = Low, amber = Medium, red = High, grey = N/A).
Example: Switching to Asset Name view lets you compare how many corrective actions are open across different vessels and at what severity levels, helping you prioritise follow-up by asset.
Corrective Actions by Category (Treemap)
A treemap breaking down corrective actions by audit category (e.g., Internal Vessel Audit, Internal Survey). The size of each block reflects the relative volume of corrective actions in that category.
Details Table
A full record-level list of corrective actions showing:
Name — the corrective action title
Audit Category
Asset Name
Component
Severity (colour-coded dot: green = Low, amber = Medium, red = High)
Description — the full text of the corrective action
Due Date
How to Use the Dashboard
Start with the Audit Findings tab for a fleet-wide picture of what has been raised. Review the total findings, the split between internal and external, and the non-conforming percentage to gauge overall compliance health.
Use the KPI tiles to filter by audit type or finding classification. Click Internal, External, Non-Conforming, or Observations to isolate that subset across all visuals on the tab.
Review the Top 10 Findings chart to identify recurring audit codes or checklist items. Patterns here often indicate systemic issues worth addressing at a procedural or training level.
Check the Findings by Asset bar chart to identify which vessels are generating the most findings — and in particular, which ones have a high proportion of non-conforming (red) findings.
Switch to the Open Audits tab to check outstanding obligations. Focus on the Overdue band first, then the Due in <30 days band. Use the calendar to spot upcoming clusters of due dates.
Use the Open Audits by Asset table to identify specific audits that need to be progressed. Click View to open the audit directly in Helm CONNECT and take action.
Switch to the Corrective Actions tab to track remediation progress on non-conforming findings. Start with the Overdue row in the Status table — these are items that should have been resolved already.
Filter by severity using the High / Medium / Low tiles to triage the workload. High severity corrective actions should always be reviewed first.
Use the Details table at the bottom of the Corrective Actions tab to see the full description of each action and its due date. Click through to Helm CONNECT to update or close corrective actions.
Notes on the Data Presented
An observation is a finding that notes an area for attention or improvement but does not indicate a direct failure to meet a required standard. A non-conforming finding indicates a specific failure against a requirement, and it is these findings that trigger the creation of a corrective action in Helm CONNECT.
The default date range is This & Last Year, based on the Audit Date field. Changing the date range using the calendar control will affect all three tabs simultaneously.
The Audit Findings tab uses the Recorded Date for findings — this may differ from the Audit Date if findings were entered into Helm CONNECT after the audit was conducted.
The Open Audits tab includes all audits in a Scheduled or Recorded state. Audits in a Scheduled state have been created in Helm CONNECT but not yet started; Recorded audits are in progress but not yet closed.
Corrective actions with Without Due-Date status are not necessarily overdue — they simply have no due date assigned. Where possible, due dates should be set in Helm CONNECT to enable effective tracking.
The Audit Code shown in the Grouped Regulatory Citation table is extracted automatically from the finding description using a defined set of rules (described in the Audit Findings tab). Where no recognisable code is found, the item description itself is used.
The Corrective Actions by Components chart uses the component classification assigned to the corrective action in Helm CONNECT. Items without a component assigned will appear in the N/A row.
